Relevance to the Theme of the Module
Chroniques is a prime example of how creative industries are fostering innovation, supporting entrepreneurship, and promoting collaboration and networking. It offers an internationa event, but also a platform for artist and a market for professionnals, in the field of digital arts. This project aligns with the module’s focus on the role of creative industries in economic development.
Presentation
Created in 2018 and organized by CHRONIQUES – the Biennial of Digital Imaginaries is an event dedicated to digital arts in the Southern region in France. Exploring visual arts, sound arts and live performances, the Biennial focuses on the presence and use of digital and new technologies in art, invests public space and gives a voice to national and international artists from various backgrounds. It attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
The project includes a platform, CHRONIQUES CRÉATIONS, which brings together professionals from various cultural fields, such as visual art, live performance, music, audiovisual, and virtual reality. Its main objective is to support artists questioning new digital technologies, by offering them collective and agile support and engineering for the production and distribution of their works.
The project includes also in 2024 a new market place for professionnals: during two days, a 1,000 m² market space features demos, round tables, masterclasses, keynotes, pitches, and the opportunity to meet hundreds of national and international professionals (over 40 nationalities). Proposed as part of the Biennal’s artistic event, which proved to be a strong leverage for participation, this Digital Imagination Market is designed to strengthen the connection between art and technology, stimulate R&D and develop creative partnerships, create new relationships with the public, and promote heritage through digital tools.
Economic development: the project of platform and market place helps to stimulate entrepreneurship and innovation within the digital and creative industries.
Networking Opportunities: the market place fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange among entrepreneurs, creatives, and industry experts.
Support for Artists: The platform’s project provides local and international artists with engineering and exhibition space, providing mentorship, business coaching, and access to resources enabling them to broaden audience and gain recognition.
Community Building: Chroniques aims to create a collaborative community of innovators and creatives.
Outcomes, Results, and Impacts
The Biennale including the market place achieved 102.000 visitors from 40 countries.

The Platform has achieved 438 candidates in 2024 through an international call for artists, 14 projects have been supported and exhibited in the Biennale.
It is funded by the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and the ministry of Culture (culture and economic innovative funds).
Thanks to these initiatives, Chroniques was designated in 2024 by the Ministry of Culture as a resource center for artistic creation in a digital environment.
Potential for Replication in Other Regions
Chroniques offers a great model for other regions aiming to enhance their commitment for innovation and digitalization for artists and professionals.
